Tekashi 6ix9ine has begun a new three-month federal sentence at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, the same New York City lockup currently holding Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and accused killer Luigi Mangione, according to multiple reports. ABC News and local ABC affiliate ABC7 New York report that 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, reported to the MDC in Sunset Park on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to serve time for violating the terms of his supervised release in a prior federal racketeering case.[3][4][1]

The 29-year-old Brooklyn rapper, whose legal troubles have long shadowed his viral success, was sentenced in December 2025 to three months in federal custody after admitting to drug possession and assault violations tied to his supervised release.[3][4] According to ABC News, MDC Brooklyn is the same troubled federal facility where Maduro, his wife Cilia Flores, and Luigi Mangione—who is accused of killing UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson—are being held pending trial.[4] ABC7 New York further notes that Hernandez turned himself in at the jail around 2 p.m. local time, with his attorney indicating he expects to be housed in a high-profile section alongside inmates such as Maduro and Mangione.[1]

6ix9ine’s surrender drew added attention after streamer Adin Ross and other influencers broadcast his final hours of freedom online. The Times of India reports that Ross streamed the check-in process live, capturing moments like Hernandez removing his ankle monitor with help from online personality SteveWillDoIt and joking about fleeing back to Miami before heading to the jail.[2] The viral stream underscored how deeply 6ix9ine’s legal saga remains intertwined with internet culture, with fans watching in real time as he entered federal custody once again.[2][4]

This latest stint marks at least the third time 6ix9ine has been incarcerated since his breakout hit “Gummo” in 2017. He previously served roughly two years on federal racketeering charges connected to the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods before receiving early release in 2020, then was hit with a 45-day sentence in 2024 for earlier supervised-release violations.[3][4] ABC7 New York reports that his attorney says the rapper is looking forward to completing the 90-day term so he can move past the current case and resume his music career.[1] With 6ix9ine now reportedly sharing a facility with a sitting head of state and a high-profile homicide suspect, his latest jail chapter places him—and MDC Brooklyn—back at the center of a global spotlight.[1][4]
