What does “Beef” mean in rap?

Published July 20, 2020 by

What does “Beef” or “Rap Beef” mean?

The term and slang “Beef” is a noun, which was popularized in the late ’80s.

Beef means to have a grudge or conflict with someone.

A Rap Beef is when two rappers, or a groups of rappers have a feud. Usually starts with someone dissing, insulting or calling out the other party in a rap song.

Though rap beef entertains rap fans, a lot of times it’s done for publicity, bitter differences or competition to see who’s better lyrically. Rappers have been killed over beef and a lot of time it is “squashed”.

The term “Beef” has been used by The Notorious B.I.G., MF DOOM, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Machine Gun Kelly, Nas, Travis Scott and many more rappers.
