Vanilla Ice‘s 1990 hit ‘Ice Ice Baby’ was the first Hip-Hop single to go No. 1 in the U.K.. The single was released on August 22, 1990, and was the lead single on his debut studio album To the Extreme. Ice Ice Baby went No. 1 in the UK on December 1, 1990, and stayed on The UK Singles Chart/Official Singles Chart for four weeks.

Ice Ice Baby was also the Hip-Hop song by a rapper to go No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, though Blondie’s 1981 single ‘Rapture’ had a rap in it and went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 28, 1981.
