Tory Lanez freed from house arrest as his trial begins

Tory released from house arrest due to the beginning of his trial

Tory Lanez no longer puts on an electric ankle monitor after a judge ends his house arrest in his felony assault case that involves accusations that he shot and injured Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. During a hearing on Monday (December 5), Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Harriford explained that he granted Lanez his freedom so that he can prepare for the trial which has begun, Rolling Stone reports. He added that the Canadian rapper’s $350K bond still stands.

“I will terminate the house arrest at this point. The main reason is that during trial, it’s difficult to have a client who’s not accessible. I’m doing this mainly for the trial preparation aspect,” Judge Harriford said.

Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta objected to the ruling claiming that the rapper previously attempted to “sway” and “intimidate” witnesses, adding that his freedom might raise their “fear” for being “in reach of him.”

Tory Lanez’s attorney George G. Mgdesyan defended him stating: “If he’s required to have a monitor on his ankle in front of jurors, I think it’s just punitive. It doesn’t serve any purpose. If he’s going to dissuade a witness, all probation is going to know is where he is. It doesn’t mean he can’t meet with that person.”
