The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” (released on September 16, 1979) was the first commercially successful hip-hop single by a rap group. The song was also recorded in one take.

The group which consisted of Big Bank Hank, Wonder Mike and Master Gee, was put together by Sylvia Robinson, the founder of Sugarhill Records. Rapper’s Delight” by The Sugarhill Gang became the first rap song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the first rap song to receive a music video.
