Pras Michel’s Potential Presidential Pardon Considered by Donald Trump

Published June 30, 2025 by

Fugees Member Faces 22-Year Sentence for Corruption Charges, but Trump Might Intervene

Pras Michel, the legendary member of the Fugees, could soon receive a presidential pardon from Donald Trump after being convicted of corruption charges related to a multi-billion-dollar fraud scheme. The rapper is facing up to 22 years in prison for his involvement in the conspiracy, which reportedly included foreign powers, bankers, and even actor Leonardo DiCaprio. While Trump has not publicly commented on the case, Pras’ publicist confirmed that the rapper’s legal team is exploring all options, remaining optimistic about a potential resolution.

The relationship between Pras and Trump goes back nearly 30 years. Trump, before his presidency, appeared on Pras’ debut album Ghetto Supastar, leaving a voicemail message encouraging Pras’ success. This long-standing connection could play a role in the rapper’s hope for a pardon.

Pras was convicted of failing to register as an agent of China, among other charges, and faces additional financial penalties from the U.S. government, including a $65 million judgment linked to his alleged involvement in illegal schemes. Meanwhile, Pras has distanced himself from the Fugees, suing bandmate Lauryn Hill over their failed reunion tour and being unable to join a European tour due to his ongoing legal issues.
