Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy Showdown: Is “Not Like Us” Set to Make History?

Published January 30, 2025 by

The ComptonMC could claim a Grammy at this year’s ceremony

Kendrick Lamar enters the 2025 Grammy Awards with seven nominations, marking another milestone in a career already adorned with prestigious honors, including a Pulitzer Prize. The Compton kingpin’s explosive diss track “Not Like Us” has earned two nods in the major categories: Record of the Year and Song of the Year, making it one of the top contenders this Sunday (February 2) at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

“Not Like Us,” a scorching takedown of Drake, has already etched its place in music history. It has not only dominated the charts and broken streaming records but also sparked controversy with its bold lyrics. If the track wins, it will become the first diss song ever to claim a Grammy, a feat few rappers have come close to achieving.

Lamar’s stiffest competition in the rap categories comes from his own collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin on “Like That,” though “Not Like Us” is widely expected to dominate, particularly in Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Beyond the rap categories, Kendrick faces challenges from pop giants like Beyoncé and Billie Eilish, but if he prevails in any of the Big Four categories, he will join Childish Gambino as only the second rapper to win both Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
