In 1995, Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott aka Joey Badass was born in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY. He was the first of his household to be born in the United States. His mother comes from St. Lucia and his father is from Jamaica. He started rapping in high school and by 2012, a YouTube video of him freestyling helped his group Pro Era begin to rise on the rap scene.
Best known for his mixtape 1999 and Summer Knights as well as the albums B.4.Da.$$ and All-Amerikkkan Badass, he’s also an actor. He appeared on Mr. Robot, Grownish, and season one of Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Joey Badass has a rap style that is an example of east coast flows with a Caribbean twist reminiscent of the Lost Boys.
