Jam Master Jay’s murder trial to continue after judge rejects mistrial motion

Published February 12, 2024 by

Defendants in Jay’s killing had filed for mistrial

Jam Master Jay’s murder trial is set to proceed after the judge turned down a mistrial motion filed by the defense. Per Associated Press, Judge LasShann DeArcy rejected the motion filed on Thursday (February 8), where defense lawyers argued that prosecutors misguided a witness through improper questioning.

The defense was referring to two of Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Misorek’s questions towards the former girlfriend of defendant Ronald Washington who is a witness. The questions were: “Did he say he killed Jam Master Jay?” and “Did he say that people get what they deserve?” The witness said yes to both questions.

Although Judge Shennan denied the mistrial request because the witness had made similar remarks in the past, she did point out that “there was no need whatsoever” for the prosecution to ask the questions.
