Earl Sweatshirt Says He Hasn’t Spoken to Frank Ocean “In a Brick”

Rapper reflects on Odd Future relationships as he drops surprise new album

Earl Sweatshirt has revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Frank Ocean in a long time, despite their shared history as members of the influential Odd Future collective.

Speaking on The New York Times’ Popcast, Earl said, “I talk to Tyler more than I talk to Frank. I haven’t talked to Frank in a brick. He is doing that shit. He can drop anytime he wants. Or not.”

The comment came as part of a wide-ranging conversation surrounding Earl’s relationships with former Odd Future members and his approach to music today.

The interview coincides with the release of Earl’s surprise fifth solo album, Live Laugh Love, which dropped on August 22. The project spans just under 25 minutes across 11 tracks. Earl announced the album only a week prior, following a surprise listening party in Los Angeles — which he notably did not attend in person, instead sending a stand-in to play the project.

While his connection with Frank Ocean may have faded, Earl remains close with Tyler, The Creator. The two reunited multiple times over the past two years, including a surprise Coachella performance in 2024 and a 10-year celebration of Earl’s debut album Doris in 2023.

Their continued bond was clear on stage. “I love this guy so fucking much,” Tyler declared during their Coachella set, with Earl responding, “Tyler, The fucking Creator, man. Look at the biggest show on Earth.”
