DMX Lived a Good Life

Published April 11, 2021 by

DMX said he lived a good life, he said in an interview in February

The past week has been an emotional roller coaster for DMX fans, which sadly ended in reports of his passing on Friday (April 9). The rap legend, unfortunately, succumbed to a heart attack brought on by a drug overdose a week prior (April 2). While we mourn his legacy and celebrate his music, it should be noted that for all of his troubles, Earl Simmons (aka DMX) lived a good life.

This is not merely my observation, but a direct quote from the Dark Man himself. Back in February, X sat down with Revolt’s Drink Champs and stated, “If I was to drop dead right now, my last thought would be: I’ve lived a good life.” While those words are haunting now, they provide some relief in retrospect. He set records on Billboard with his classic albums, stared in big-budget action movies, and had a large, loving family. We know about his trials and tribulations but all of that fades away when we look at the bigger picture. He found meaning in the suffering and shared it with us.

With all of these developments, his upcoming album is sure to hit very different now that it will be a posthumous release. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends, family, and fans of the late great DMX.
