Chance the Rapper’s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” was originally titled “Babies and Gunshots: Fuck Hawaii Pt. 2.”

Published April 6, 2020 by

Chance the Rapper‘s “Cocoa Butter Kisses” off his 2013 project Acid Rap was originally titled “Babies and Gunshots: Fuck Hawaii Pt. 2.”

During a 2018 interview with Complex on the oral history of Acid Rap, Vic Mensa revealed this saying;

“It was actually called “Babies and Gunshots: Fuck Hawaii Pt: 2” That wasn’t the name of the beat that’s what we called it. The beat was some bossa nova shit. We called it that because we were ruminating on the effects of violence in our community. It was “Fuck Hawaii” because we’re in Chicago: it’s cold, dark, and dangerous. Fuck that state!”
