Cardi B celebrates victory in artwork lawsuit
Cardi B triumphantly walked out of court on Friday (October 20) after winning in the $5 million lawsuit filed against her, TMZ reports. Cardi was sued by one Kevin Michael Brophy for copyright infringement for the artwork of her 2016 debut mixtape, Gangsta Bitch Vol. 1.
“I just won this lawsuit …Im soo emotional right now 🥲…I wanna kiss Gods feet right now …..IM BEYOND GRATEFUL!!!!” Bardie wrote on Twitter after the legal victory.
On the mixtape cover, Cardi appears to be holding a man’s head between her legs, with a serpent tattoo on his back. Brophy claimed that the man’s tattoos match those of his and wanted $5 million in compensation for damages caused.
“It looks like I’m giving oral sex to somebody that’s not my wife, somebody that’s not my partner, and an image that I never signed off on, ever,” Brophy stated in the suit. “Being a father of two and a devoted husband and a man of faith as well, this goes against everything that I stand for, and I would never ever sign off on something like this.”
Cardi’s lawyer Peter J. Anderson clapped back saying Brophy’s racial identity and physical appearance doesn’t match that of the model’s. “That’s a Black man with hair, and this is a white man with a shaven head.”
“That’s a self-inflicted wound,” Anderson added. ”He caused that by identifying himself when no one else had identified him as being the person in the image.”
