Cardi B holds the most certified singles by a female rapper as “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It” feat. Bad Bunny & J Balvin earn 11x platinum certifications from RIAA. The two records have sold 11 million units across the US.
Both singles were part of Bardi’s 2018 debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy. “Bodak Yellow” became the New York native’s big break into the mainstream audience, peaking at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.
The single was her first release through Atlantic Records since signing with the label in 2017. As the title suggests, the track’s flow and beat was inspired by Kodak Black’s 2015 smash, “No Flockin‘.”
“I wanted to do a song that is, like, ‘You know what? I’m in a good place in my life right now and I want to stun,’” Cardi told Billboard about the song in 2017.
“I felt it in my soul — this song is going to be so popping,” she added. “While I was recording it, every bitch I don’t like came into my head.”
