Bas & Dreamville partner with Spotify for new documentary podcast, ‘The Messenger’

Bas tells the courageous story of Bobi Wine, an artist with a bigger cause than creating music

Last fall of last year, Dreamville announced the launch of Dreamville Studios and Dreamville Ventures. The goal was — and is to — produce and co-produce original content under the media company. One of their first lines of business is a new podcast titled The Messenger.

Teaming up with Spotify Studios, Dreamville introduces their new documentary podcast, hosted by Dreamville artist, Bas. The podcast finds Bas going in detail of Afropop Superstar Bobi Wine’s influence within Uganda and beyond. After almost losing his life, Wine’s has dedicated his life to a purpose of creating social and changes within the political system in Uganda and beyond.

“I believe in using my platform to speak out on certain things that socially have an effect on me,” Bas said in an interview on Spotify. “Bobi Wine is an inspiring musician because he sacrificed everything to go all the way in that route. That’s inspirational, it’s commendable. In this process, I learned that Bobi is incredibly brave. Braver than I am. I don’t think I’d be able to do what he’s doing. He’s really risking everything for a noble cause and a selfless one. “

To kick off the podcast on a high note, four episodes have already been issued out. Bas teamed up with London-based band, The Hics, to create the show’s theme song, “Smoke On Fire.”
