Baby girl, Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born in Brooklyn in 1979. Her family moved to Detroit when she was 5 and she appeared on Star Search at age 10. She had a record deal by age 12 and her debut album dropped when she was 15.
She would hop from Jive Records to Atlantic and connect with Timbaland and Missey Elliot for some of her best work. She became an actress and starred in several popular films as well as provided music for various soundtracks.
She tragically passed in 2001 in a plane crash in the Bahamas. More recently, her estate has released her music on streaming platforms and some posthumous work from Aaliyah featuring The Weeknd.
