2Pac’s first rap name was MC New York

Published June 8, 2020 by

Before Tupac Amaru Shakur was known as 2Pac, Makaveli or just Tupac, he went by the moniker MC New York.

Tupac was born in East Harlem, New York. Growing up mainly in Harlem, Pac and his mother moved to Baltimore where he wrote his first raps under the name MC New York and won a rap contest sponsored by the Enoch Pratt Free Library at the age of 14 years old. He later adopted his real name and it later grew phonetically into “2Pac”.
