Illmatic is the classic debut album from Queensbridge rapper Nas. The album dropped on April 19, 1994, on Columbia Records and less than two years later it had sold 500,000 copies. The RIAA certified it as a gold album on January 17, 1996. The album was executive produced by MC Serch, who helped Nas get a deal.

The album includes the records “The World is Yours,” “Halftime,” “NY State of Mind,” and “Life’s a Bitch,” among others. It is arguably the best debut album from any rapper. Nas has performed the album live in its entirety several times. Pete Rock sought royalties from his work on the album in 2022 while another producer, DJ Premier, worked with Nas on his latest album titled Magic.
